Janet Collins Is New Institute of Food Technologists President

Janet Collins, PhD, RD, CFS, and senior manager at DuPont, is the new president of the Institute of Food Technologists (IFT), a nonprofit scientific society of professionals engaged in food science, food technology and related areas in industry, academia and government.

IFTCollins is the 74th president of IFT and the first IFT president to be both a food scientist and a registered dietitian. She assumed her role on Sept. 1,  succeeding John Ruff of Kraft Foods.

Collins has more than 35 years of international experience in academic institutions, overseeing industry project and program management and leading scientific affairs. Her interest areas include food composition, chemistry and technology, nutrition and health, and global food policy development.

At DuPont, she’s worked on dialogue toward biotechnology acceptance. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of Wyoming and master and bachelor degrees from University of Georgia.
